FSX/P3D. This was a rumor that spread like wildfire and rather than pour gas onto it, I deemed prudent to wait to see what facts if any would come from it. I am speaking about the rumors that Microsoft had sold the license rights of either the FSX or Flight platform/engine to a gaming company. Well, according a press release today, the distribution rights of FSX has indeed been sold to a company known as Dovetail Games known for train and fishing games. Now in reading the press statement, there is nothing in there to me that suggests that Dovetail will be expanding on the FSX platform itself or will be improving it in any way but rather to develop their own FS product.
According to two an excerpts from the statement: Dovetail Games will bring Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition to the Steam online gaming platform for the first time in late 2014. The company is currently investigating new concepts in this area and is expecting to bring a release to market in 2015.
Thus I assume they will attempt to learn from the FSX platform in an effort to develop their own platform for 2015. Thus far, the only good thing I see of purchasing the distro rights is the fact that Dovetail will distribute FSX on Steam. This is wonderful as Steam is a great way to get the FS hobby out to the masses again. Hopefully then, we can introduce these newcomers to P3D. I am very curious as to what exactly it is that they will present in 2015. For the full statement, click the source link below. ADX came across this information via Froogle and PC Pilot.
